The Rietveld Schroder House is considered 'an important and unique icon of western architectural history' by UNESCO, which placed the house on the world heritage list at the end of the year 2000.
The house was built in 1924 by the Utrecht architect and designer Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (1888-1964). The Rietveld Schroder House is the only building to have been built completely in accordance with the architectural principles of De Stijl.
